MARBAL Crew, October 2016. From left to right – Colin, Jess, Horia, and Anca.
MARBAL (Mortuary Archaeology of the Râmeț Bronze Age Landscape) is a collaborative bioarchaeology and mortuary archaeology project headed by Dr. Jess Beck (University of Pittsburgh), Dr. Colin Quinn (Hamilton College), and Dr. Horia Ciugudean (Muzeul Național al Unirii din Alba Iulia). We conducted our pilot mapping season of the site of Râmeț Gugului in October 2016, and are back in the field for a three-week session of bioarchaeological data collection at the Muzeul Național al Unirii din Alba Iulia (Museum of National Unity) in July of 2017. Next up on our projected agenda are excavations at the Râmeț site in summer 2018.
